Throughout the year, I allowed the students to become the photographer and take pictures of the things that they were proud of and that they thought were important. Many of these photo-ops happened during our Choice Center time. Here are some of those pictures :). Enjoy!
To make the end of the year even more exciting (as if there wasn't enough excitment already), we counted down the last 26 days of school with an ABC Countdown. This was the first year that we decided to celebrate in this way and it went so well that we will definitely be doing it again! Here are just a few of the highlights from our final days: Autograph Day Bubble Day Exercise Day (Adventure to Fitness) Favorite Book Day Game Day Hat Day Luau Day Water Day As a way to celebrate all of the amazing things that we have done as authors throughout the year, we toasted and shared our writing pieces in a Publishing Party with Mrs. Micek's class. This was our final Publishing Party. We spent a lot of time "fancying" up our writing like real authors would do prior to the party. I am so proud of all of my young authors and the work that they did. We started out our year by telling stories verbally and maybe having some random letters and pictures on a page. We ended our year with stories written across multiple pages that focused in on one small moment of our lives. By the end of the year, every student in our class realized that they were real authors! In April, we worked on measuring with nonstandard units. These pictures capture the students using unifix cubes to determine the length of objects around our classroom. I love the conversations and inquiry that happen through this type of hands-on exploration.
In March, we had our Donuts With Dads celebration. The students had fun eating donuts and reading books with our special guests. Two days before this event, the students began working on their Reading Club plays for our Folktales Unit to summarize what they had learned. These were completely student-led/created and they were extremely proud of what they had worked on. They convinced me that they just HAD to act them out for their special guests and how could I argue with that?! Hopefully you all enjoy the plays as much as I did! |
