What a fun start to our day we had on Friday! We had the opportunity to celebrate how far we have come as writers with Mrs. Hellige's fifth grade class with our very first Publishing Party! It was a great way for the fifth graders to see how far they have come since Kindergarten and for our class to see what amazing progress they will make throughout their elementary years. Our class was so brave and fearless as they shared their stories! We also celebrated with donuts, juice, and fruit snacks. Here are some pictures we wanted to share with you:

Our reading block is set up as a workshop approach. This means that we spend part of our time working in whole group with all of the students and the other part of our time working in small groups or with individual students based on students needs. In order to be able to work with small groups of students, the rest of the students learn to work independently in a component we call Daily 5. During Daily 5, students are spending time reading to themselves (Read to Self), reading with a partner (Read to Someone), listening to books being read to them on the computer (Listen to Reading), writing independently (Work on Writing), and building and manipulating words with different tools such as playdoh, magnetic letters, etc (Word Work). This past month we have worked very hard at building our stamina with Read to Self, Work on Writing, and Word Work. Here are a few pictures that show what these three components look like in action. Choice Centers is time for students to engage in cooperative and creative free play each day. The students get to choose which centers they would like to participate in and are able to move from center to center during this time. Some of the options include blocks, sand, water, art, house, legos, and many more.. Here are a few pictures of the students enjoying their time during Choice Centers. Enjoy!
On our very first day of school, we went on a scavenger hunt to help us get to know the places and faces of Eagle Elementary. We asked each person that we met, "What is your favorite part of your job?" The students quickly noticed a common theme! Check out our video to meet all of the people that help us on a daily basis and learn what their answer to this question is. |
